SEMINARI EXPERIÈNCIA COMPARTIDA: PROJECTE SHARING TO LEARN.

Bona feina!

CHRISTMAS IS COMING!!

Christmas is one of the most exciting holidays of the year and Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer has undoubtedly become a classic Christmas story that young children and grown- ups look forward to during the winter holidays.
Here it is a cartoon version of the story:

And the song:

And the lyrics.

Kids will love crafting this decorative version of Rudolph, for lower class students and for upper class students. It's the perfect ornament for any Christmas tree.

And finally, do your students want to know where Rudolph is? Try this game!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

Experiència compartida. Així treballem als centres: Escola Les Roques Blaves (Esparreguera)

Sixth grade students at Les Roques Blaves School in Esparreguera, who have been participating for their first time in this project, were so enthusiastic with it that they wanted to know everything about their Language Assistants from the beginning.

So, the first activity we did consisted in asking them the correct questions to find out about their personal information and compiling it on a table.

Once they had the information, the final task the students had to do was to choose one of the Language Assistant, get a photo and write a text describing him or her.

They were so proud of their final projects that they used them to make a display dedicated to their LA in their classroom.

These are the worksheets we used to compile the information and to write about them:

All of us are very grateful to Roger, Eli, Marta and Marc for sharing these moments with us. THANK YOU!

Gràcies, Paqui, per compartir!

Experiència compartida. Així treballem als centres: Escola Can Palmer (Viladecans)

In our school, Escola Can Palmer, we have had seven LA. They have been helping in 2nd and 3rd years.

For the children, it has been a great way of learning, in a different way that they're used to. At least, with different organization and "teachers" as they call them. They liked very much to practice English playing and learning with the LA.

In each session, we have had about 30 o 40 minutes, so I tried to do three different corners with different activities and one LA in each corner. The pupils in one o two sessions went through all those proposals. In 2nd year, the proposals have been based in vocabulary and small sentences. Here you have got two of the corners.

OUR BODY
The LA gives orders with the children in circle like:
Touch your feet...touch one foot...
How many arms do you have...?
And children answer those vocabulary questions and also with I've got...

Also children make questions among them about their own bodies.
We can practice close your eyes...open....listen...touch... as well.

FOOD
In this corner there is one LA and a group of 4 children.
We have a game with 4 trolleys and a shopping list There are also a lot of small tokens with food. The LA takes one shopping list and each participant knows what to take.
The winner is who has the full trolley first.
Also the LA can make questions with do you like?...
What is your favourite food...?
And the pupils answer with yes, I do; no, I don't

In general, I think it has been a very interesting and funny experience for everybody.

                                          Gràcies, Carme, per compartir!

       (3rd and 4th grade)

All about me
(5th and 6th grade)

You can click the pictures if you want to see the activities.

Mare de Déu de la Muntanya School wants to thank the four Language Assistants their help. Thank you so much!

THANK YOU, DOLORS i SERGI

Experiència compartida. Així treballem als centres: Escola Les Roques Blaves (Esparreguera)

Així treballem als centres: Escola Pau Vila (Esparreguera)

In the School Pau Vila of Esparreguera the Language Assistants and I have used a technique called “Lotus Blossom” with our students of grade 4 and grade 6.

The purpose of Lotus Blossom is to generate ideas that are connected to other ideas to stir speaking up. I use it in my classes as a way to present specific structures of language, practice fluency and for students to generate content to fit into a structured conversation.

This is a basic step by step for using Lotus Blossom:

1. Draw a circle on a cardboard. Write the context, idea or question that will generate conversation for the lotus blossom. For example: Where do you want to go in summer?
2. Elicit one or two answers for the first stage of the idea generation on the board. For example: Explain that students can think of many different places to go.  Pass out post it notes and have Ss use post it notes to put the words around the circle (as they continue to be added will give this the look of a real flower).
3. Circulate as Ss write information to the first idea. When finished draw Ss attention to the cardboard. Review previously elicited ideas. Now ask the second question. For example: Who do you want to go with?
4. Allow time for the Ss to write the second tier.
5. When finished draw Ss attention to the cardboard. Elicit the third tier. For example: What are you going to do there? Model with three additional answers. Have Ss write on a post it and complete the third tier.
6. Once finished introduce the structure using presentation techniques. Then have Ss use the language generated to have a conversation.

Example:

Point to one of the places on the cardboard. Write the question on the board. “Where do you want to go in summer?” Say the question. Point to a place. Have Ss answer with the place you point to. Write the question. “Who do you want to go with?” Point to the post it. Have Ss answer. Write the final question “What do you want to do there?”

A: Where do you want to go in summer? (Where are you going...?)

B: I want to go to ______________. (I’m going to...)

A: Who do you want to go with? (Who are you going with?)

B: I want __________ with _________. (I’m going with ______)

A: What do you want to do there? (What are you going to do there?)

B: I want to ______________. (I’m going to _____________)

The Language Assistants model this conversation with the students. They take the role of A and the student the role of B. Point to the answer on the cardboard for student to use. Exchange roles and have students take the role of A, while Language Assistants take the role of B.

Vocabulari:
Places: museum, park, school, beach, shops.
Means of transport:  bus, car, taxi, motorbike and train.
Daily routines: get up, have breakfast, go to school, go home, go to bed, have lunch, have dinner, have lessons.

Estructures:
Present simple (affirmative)
I go to the _____ by _____
Remarcar que amb “school” no fan servir l’article “The”

Dinàmica:
1a sessió: estudiem les rutines: get up, have breakfast, go to school...
3a sessió: els alumnes estudien el present simple i practiquen les estructures: I play football./ You get up at seven o’clock. / They go home./ He goes to bed.

Alumne 1: I go to the beach by train.
Alumne 2: No.

Alumne 1: I go to the shops by car.

Alumne 2:  Yes. Your turn!

Molly Mc Donaldson and Sophie Schroer are the language assistants this year at Matilde Orduña School. They help the teacher with the 3rd grade children.
In the next text they explain what they are doing:
These past few months we have been working on different subjects. These different subjects include clothes, animals, the description of animals as well as their natural habitats, family members and food. We have studied these subjects using different methods. From the pupil’s book, the smart board and other electronic devices, reading stories to the students and then acting them out. We did class activities but also separated into smaller groups. On holidays or events we did separate activities from the normal class work. On Halloween we prepared a PowerPoint that included vocabulary specifically to do with Halloween. This PowerPoint also included games, word searches and coloring. The students enjoy these different activities and always participate well.
So, as they explain they prepared by their own the whole Halloween activities.
First they taught the children some words related to the festival. Then the children coloured a picture and finally they explained a scary story in which the pupils could recognize some of the words they have previously learnt.
It was a funny activity and the children got a lot of treats for doing well.
Here are the PowerPoint presentation they made and the recording of the activity at the school webpage.

CONGRATULATIONS!
