Experiència compartida. Així treballem als centres: escola Gras i Soler (Esplugues de Llobregat)

La Sílvia Dobon de l'escola Gras i Soler (Esplugues de Llobregat) ens fa arribar la següent activitat que ha portat a terme amb les seves language assistants, la Marta Escura i la Marta Morist.

ACTIVITY


“ THE FRUIT BINGO HAT” 
DESCRIPTION:

  The LA and the teacher have told the story “Aziza’s Hat” (Big Surprise 1) to the kids and they have been playing with fruit+food vocabulary previously. Then, the LA show the children how to make a hat and ask them to cut out the 10 fruit mini flashcards for playing “The Fruit Bingo Hat”(Big Surprise 1, page 87). Once the kids have finished  the hat, the assistants give them instructions to arrange the fruit in the hat and they  can try to cheat them (LA:”I like red cherries”, “I like delicious chicken”; Children:”Chicken? It isn’t a fruit”…) Besides, some kids can play the assistants’ role and give the instructions to their mates. Finally, the LA tell the kids to choose 4 fruit mini flashcards and lay them on the table. The game starts! The LA have got the ten big fruit flashcards.  When the LA like the same fruit they’ve chosen, they put it in their hat. The first one to put all four in the hat says BINGO. After checking it’s correct, he/she can play the LA’s role.

  What is more, the teacher can take advantage of their students’ fluency when they’re talking about the food they like and they don’t like by recording them using the audioboo or   the audacity programmes and record their voices. All children love listening to themselves and to their friends later, even the most shy.



MATERIALS:
-        -  Big  Surprise 1 (p.87)
-        -   Food + fruit flashcards
-        -  Scissors
-        -   Stapler

MAIN STRUCTURE:
- I like (red) (cherries)
- I don’t like (purple) (plums)
- Do you like (yellow) (bananas)?

It’s a simple activity, but it works!

Experiència compartida. Així treballem als centres: Escola Espai 3 (Sant Joan Despí)


Som de l’escola Espai 3, de Sant Joan Despí. Aquest curs hem tingut la sort de comptar des de l'inici de curs amb dues Language Assistants: la Laura Barenblit, que ha estat ajudant el cicle inicial, i la Montse Figuera, que ha treballat al cicle superior. 
 
A la nostra escola tenim un calendari de celebracions de festes angleses distribuïdes per nivells al llarg de tota l’educació infantil i l'educació primària: Halloween, Bonfire, Thanksgiven, Christmas, Carnival, April Fool’s Day, Pancake Day, Saint Patrick, Saint Valentine, Easter i Saint George. La primera festa en què les LA van participar va ser la Halloween Parade, amb els alumnes de 3r, i l'última que hem celebrat, la  setmana abans de Pasqua, amb els alumnes de 1r, va ser la festa de EASTER

Aquest any hem treballat cançons, craftsel vocabulari necessari per participar en la Easter Hunt. S’ha revisat el vocabulari de colors i números i les estructures bàsiques (happy Easter, basket, chocolate, yummy, red, yellow, green, blue, purple… one, two, three, four…..nineteen, twenty, can you help me..? let’s hide and seek, look for the eggs, under the seat, on the tree, in the basket, let’s find out…, let’s count them, let’s share them and eat them…).  

Les dues LA vam participar amagant els ous de Pasqua per tot el pati, van donar a l'alumnat les instruccions necessàries per a l'activitat i la van dinamitzar excel·lentment!

Experiència compartida. Així treballem als centres: Escola Lola Anglada, Esplugues de Llobregat

El Francesc de l'escola Lola Anglada d'Esplugues de Llobregat ens explica una activitat que ha fet amb els seus LA, la Hannah i el David.

About Me

This is a listening, reading and speaking activity. The main goal is to give others some personal information, such as name, age, height and likes. The use of numbers is needed to talk about how tall the kids are. They also can use some new words when talking about their likes.

The class management is based on taking turns in small teams to go to the Language Assistants centre, while the main group is doing some revision worksheets helped by the teacher.
The needed materials are a measure poster and some ‘About Me’ worksheets the LA fill in when they talk to the kids and get their answers. Here’s one:

The timing depends on the kids and the LA. In fact we must give two sessions to get the information from everyone.
At the end of the lesson, when the kids clean up, the LA give me the information sheets which I use later. Another day, as a warming up, the kids read their information in front of the others and I ask them some questions about what they have heard.
I think that all of us share and learn doing this activity.
